Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When she was young, her carnival barker father died and left her mother without a choice other than to work as a cleaning girl and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth attended the school in Boston's tenement region, which was the most deplorable. She left the school she attended just two years later in order to pursue a career as an actor.
